Welcome Reception and Dinner
Sunday 17 November, 5:30pm onwards
BDI-MDO 2024 invites delegates to join us on Sunday to kick off this year’s event with our Welcome Reception followed by the Welcome Dinner. This is a chance to grab a drink, have some amazing bbq and catch-up with fellow delegates, sponsors and exhibitors.
This function is included in your registration, however, pre-booking is required for catering purposes.
Should you wish to bring a colleague or partner who isn't attending the conference to the welcome dinner, additional tickets can be purchased for $80.00 per additional ticket.
Student/Speaker Networking Lunch
Tuesday 19 November, 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Are you a student or an Early Career Researcher attending BDI-MDO 2024? We have an amazing opportunity for you to attend a special lunchtime networking experience.
We’ve set aside a lunch session to meet with some of the amazing national and international invited speakers from this year’s meeting. It will be a fantastic opportunity to engage, ask questions and have intimate one on one conversations with highly regarded professionals.

ECRs/Nature Metabolism Networking Lunch

In addition to meeting with invited speakers, the Chief Editor of Nature Metabolism, Dr Christoph Schmitt (pictured left), will also be presenting. He can offer a lot of insight into the world of publishing. See below some more information about about Dr Christoph Schmitt.

Christoph Schmitt
Chief Editor at Nature Metabolism
Christoph joined Nature Research in 2010 as an editor for the Nature Reviews journals. In 2012, he moved to Nature Communications, where he managed a team of editors handling a broad range of biomedical and translational research, including metabolic research. Christoph became Chief Editor of Nature Metabolism in 2018 to prepare the journal for its launch in 2019. He is passionate about mentorship and about educating the next generation of scientists. Christoph studied pharmacy at Heidelberg University, holds a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Vienna, and conducted postdoctoral work at University College London, investigating mitochondrial function and links between cellular energy metabolism and cell proliferation.

This social event is the last evening event for the week, another great way to mingle and network over catered food and drinks.

Surfing Lessons with Go Ride A Wave
Have you ever wanted to try surfing? Now is the time!
This 2 hour surfing lesson with Go Ride A Wave is perfect for beginners, and enjoyable for expert surfers!
Discover the beauty of Lorne’s coastline, where pristine beaches and gentle waves create the perfect setting for your surfing adventure. As one of the safest and most sheltered beaches along the Great Ocean Road, Lorne provides an ideal environment for surf enthusiasts of all levels and ages.
All equipment including surfboards, full length wetsuits and instruction are included in the price.
This activity requires a minimum of 8 people to go ahead, so make sure you register to take part!

Erskine Falls Walk
Participate on this peaceful journey, and join us on the Erskine Falls Walk.
The walking track (7.5km each way) from Lorne to Erskine Falls is a fabulous way to take get in touch with nature and experience the calm and peacefulness of the stunning environment.
The scenery mostly follows the Erskine River, passing by Splitters and Straw Falls along the way, with river crossings and cascades.
Bus transportation to and from the falls will be provided.
